Girl Scouts and Susan G Komen for the Cure

Posted on Feb 20, 2008

In September, Troops 2262 & 2032 from Cross Lanes, WV decided to collect pink Yoplait lids for the Susan G Komen for the Cure.  Collection bins were placed in various locations in the area.  The girls also collected at home. Troop 2092 from St Albans, WV decided they wanted to be a part of this project also and they too collected.  Collection ran from September through December 18.

Some of the businesses that helped along the way were Christine’s Nail Salon, Missy’s Cut-N-Curl, Cross Lanes and St Albans Libraries, Baber Agee Methodist Church, Kelly’s Dance Studio, Jefferds Corp. McJunkin Redman Corp, Eastern Energy, CAMC, Dunbar Lanes, Geary Middle School Sixth graders, A-Ash Sports Center, and some of the offices at the State Capitol.

On December 18 the troops met together for a “Totally Pink Party”.  At this time all of the lids were counted.  Everyone wore as much pink as possible to the party and there was a special prize for the person votedthe pinkest” of the group.  Anyone collecting 100 or more lids received a gift and everyone participating received goodie bags.  No party is complete without food, and ours was no exception.  Pink lemonade and punch, cupcakes, raspberry sherbet, potato chips and pink dip (dip with red color added) was served on pink plates, cups, and napkins.

A total of 20 Girl Scouts collected lids totaling 1625.
